The new knife on its maiden voyage.
This is a take on the classic Woodlore knife, popularised by wilderness living skills sage Ray Mears. Enjoyed for it’s simple functionality and no nonsense Scandinavian grind, it’s a global favourite for anything bushcraft related.
I had this one custom built and opted for a RWL-34 stainless steel blade and a micarta handle, along with a kydex sheath to house it. These kind of features ensure my blade is as robust and as maintenance free as possible, whilst being very resistant to the elements. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s certainly a step up from the Mora I’d been using for the better part of two years. After countless hours using the Mora in the field and for a sundry of bushcraft tasks, I started deliberating on my ideal knife as I felt I’d slightly outgrown my Mora. Mostly in relation to its materials more than much else. Have no doubt, Mora produce truly excellent knives that are durable and affordable. Of course, there were some finer details to mull over regarding functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics. So skip forward 6 months or so, plus more time researching and contemplating than I care to divulge, I decided on the knife you see pictured. Even bearing in mind how little I have used it up to now, I have a sneaking suspicion this one is going to be my unwavering companion from hereon out.
What sort of blade do you guys prefer to use when you’re out in the bush?
